Edition A vs. Edition B: Which Magnet Maker Kit Is Right for You?
If you're stepping into the world of custom photo magnets, there's one decision that trips up almost every beginner (and even some experienced creators):
Edition A or Edition B?
Both make square magnets, both look great at first glance — but dig a little deeper, and you'll see they work differently, feel different, and even look different. Let’s break it all down so you can pick the version that fits your needs — and your budget.
🔶 Edition A – Budget-Friendly, Great for Getting Started
📌 Key Features:
- Rounded corners give the magnet a softer, friendly appearance.
- White plastic backing is visible on the back of the finished product.
- Uses A01 supplies, which include the metal shell, mylar, plastic backing, and rubber magnet.
- Requires the Edition A machine — only compatible with these supplies.
✏️ How it's made:
After pressing, you’ll need to manually stick the magnet onto the plastic back, which stays partially visible on the final piece.
💡 Pros & Cons:
- ✅ Lower cost — great for creators just getting started on a tight budget.
- ✅ Simpler setup with easy-to-find supplies.
- ❌ Plastic backing is visible, which some may feel reduces the overall product quality.
- ❌ Slightly less professional look compared to Edition B.
🔷 Edition B – Premium Finish, Higher-End Result
📌 Key Features:
- Sharp square corners give a clean, frame-like look.
- No plastic backing is visible — the back looks like a clean solid magnet.
- Requires the Edition B machine, with two supply options: B01 and B02.
✏️ Two ways to make Edition B magnets:
- With B01 supplies: The soft magnet needs pre-glued to a paperboard, so when you press the magnet, it’s done — no extra steps.
- With B02 supplies: Uses an acrylic board as the back for a more premium feel. After pressing, you attach the magnet manually — but the acrylic doesn't show through, so the final look is still clean and smooth.
💡 Pros & Cons:
- ✅ Clean, professional finish — magnet covers the entire back.
- ✅ Acrylic backing option (B02) adds weight and premium feel.
- ❌ More expensive — both the tools and supplies cost more.
- ❌ Slightly more steps involved if using B02.
🧲 Side-by-Side Comparison
🛍️ So... Which One Should You Choose?
-
On a budget? Just starting out and want to test the market? Go with Edition A. It gets the job done, and you can upgrade later.
-
Want the best possible finish? If you're targeting customers who care about quality — or you're building a premium brand — Edition B (especially with B02 acrylic backing) is worth the investment.
Real talk:
You can’t switch supplies between A and B. Each machine works only with its own type. So whichever one you pick, you're locking into that system — choose wisely!
💡 Pro Tip: Some successful creators use both editions — A for general orders and B for premium upgrades. If you're building a product line, it might make sense to offer both styles.
